NoVAPeers PBWiki Acceptable Use Policy

NoVAPeers is a peer run interactive website which would thrive on contributions from all stakeholders, including consumer, provider, professional and paraprofessional, family and the interested adult (see note below) public. In order to make this online community both safe and productive, a few Acceptable Use Policies are being developed.

If you can not agree to these simple common sense policies, consider contacting the webmaster or discussing it face to face in a Large group RRWG meeting. It is not a wish to restrict free speech, but to create a safe environment for frank discussion of the regional issues towards transformation.

1. No offensive material. In particular, racial, sexual, obscene and similar behaviors, while perhaps common even in the general public facilities like clubhouses, hospital facilities and treatment spaces will not be tolerated here, as it is much more public being published online for the entire (internet connected) world to see.

2. Flaming is not permitted and will be proactively discouraged.

3. No harrassment, slander, etc. We are adults and the usual social rules also apply here. Mental health treatment is no exception nor excuse, though reasonable accommodations are common.

4. Threats, harm and stalking, of any kind, will not be tolerated, and will be reported.

It should be noted to the general public that Mental Health Consumers/Survivors/ ExPatients are statistically no more dangerous than any other population, and are more likely to be victims of violence, than perpetrators. Appropriate conflict resolution procedures are under development in the region to safely resolve any greivances.

5. Begging (other than the usual non profit group approved fundraising ;-) ) is not allowed. Sharing community resources such as requesting transportation from the community (at your own risk) is permitted, and in fact, encouraged.

6. Minors are required to get parental permission to use this site, as it contains adult (but non sexual) mental health issues that may require supervision.

7. Publishing privileged and confidential case notes and other legally protected material (such as under CFR...) Abstracted procedural, policy, transformation and systems change information is encouraged.

8. Copyrighted materials need to be under fair use to be included. Likewise, the comments here do not necessarily reflect those of all the members nor sponsoring agencies.

9. Unless otherwise very clearly specified, this site and it's contents are not medical advice.

While this Acceptable Use Policy is under development, and likely continual wiki revisement, your input is appreciated. It is a hope that we can have a caring, compassionate and frank community dialogue on the serious issues in Northern Virginia, at the levels of regional, state, federal and Mental Health Recovery in general.

And have some fun as well!
