Dear Missing SideBar et. al:

 

 

As I sit here typing, the morning after a snow storm in the NorthEast

MidAtlantic USA, (slightly removed from EthernetVille) I am reminded

of many things, which you might not remember seeing before deletion

(parallelling the SideBar yet to be renamed again Services)...:

 

 

1.

I can't be Out in it with a broken toe, but many people probably

are (and worse), like my friends who have passed away:

 

One would have been 50 a few weeks later, and I wish I could call him

back (though probably never did, usually seeing face to face in

meetings, like in the basement of the local state hospital, which I

can't help to forget, one of the last things I said 'Be Careful What

You Ask For You Just Might Get It' or similar when he probably just

wanted to have lunch with his friends, tell a bad joke, but remind us

of the good times we have together, instead of the usual misery

experienced alone, having called me about being fired off the CS

Board, not making much sense, but I was in my own little world,

obliviously off duty and unawares of the extent of the difficulties he

was having that day, possibly for asking for lunch money and I hadn't

known it was his birthday coming up), maybe write him a Dear _____

letter and post IT up?  Or a consumer driven M&M process?

 

Another hit by a car on a very busy road near a local shelter, asserted

to have been drinking, but sometimes people with cars are given more

credit than The Homeless by police...

 

Or the guy on the local consumer run employment center website

whom I don't recall knowing likely before I was on board.

Or the two guys during treatment, one committing, the other copying,

and planting a tree for the first, but what is said well of the

second? 

 

Or the nameless others like at the CCNV visit (or city library where

this same machine was later spit on while wearing a Help The Homeless

T Shirt and trying to do something to help and resting with an

extremely long commute), unfortunately on the anniversary of Mitch's

death, when I did the long commute, to the bookcase where the ashes of

city homeless were kept, starved, or frozen, or just plain neglected?

So throw blood on the courthouse steps?  That was pre-AIDS?  But still

hazardous, though perhaps theatrical media advocacy?

 

Is this a consumer directed process?

Or as someone once said, anger management?

Vengeful?  Perhaps.  Psychotrauma? Likely.

 

 

2.

I've been Out in the past, and likely in the future again as well,

reminded of one of the times with a snow storm walking over a bridge

in Seven Corners towards a couch surfing arrangement at a new friends'

place.  I was lucky, perhaps because some of the women when I had

overstayed my welcome at an old coworkers living room floor found me

cute or pathetic or something appearing for a bed at a megashelter, too

allergic to sleep on the friend's couch, my stuff in storage, selling

my late committing uncle's antique contents to pay the bill, while

being told it couldn't last, going to 'treatment' at the same place

where M. Kennedy later started mistreating his 'Bay of Pigs'...

 

Many years later working in a high rise overlooking that same bridge

nearby which I had spent another year creating a consumer run drop in

center, educating consumers as staff in a senior manager type of way,

letting mistakes happen, as the usual managers excercise their

inferiority in the form of hurting others, trying to reduce the

damage, but not finding out in many cases, until too late.  That place

would be closed at the worst times of need, due to office building

hours, though maybe a shelter in place arrangement, like the last

little internal Thanksgiving Day storms created?

 

During Election Day, when the {now burning} Bush was being elected, I was

looking over a bridge, like one near one of the meetings missed last

night, later wondering in following years about looking under bridges,

cleaning up after the mistaken policies of a childish president...

 

Or tell them, 'let them eat cake'?

 

Is this consumer operated?  Designing systems to address issues like

these or as the underrepresented African American radio station

mentioned last night in a live community dialogue with the new mayor

about a downtown club shooting?

 

Or hybrid peer run transportation services?  And a few will need to be

accessible...

 

Or creating a regional Grate Patrol with hybrid vans (which don't

yet seem to exist), preparitory work would need to be done well before

a deadline is likely for a RecoveryApplication, as most hypothermia is

done in winter, while Homelessness is a year round issue...

 

Or history projects to let people know how it was pre-Transformation?

 

 

3.

Just hit the wrong key (oops, sue me ;-} and performed a screenshot

with a NoVAPeers.PBWiki.com in the background, missing the {funeral

but typed funder} services from the mistakenly edited SideBar (which

technically isn't the FrontPage and aside from FrontPageDiscussion,

but a page overlayed on each page without a little script code

fragment call ___ to exclude it)... 

 

So do Ombudsmen/women help deal with funders?  How about advocating

for Core Services N+1 to include technology?  And other contraversy?

 

How about judge, jury and executioner? 

The assertion "We want better than you", fails.  I statements, the

clearest way to communicate in groups, stating your position, in a

safe environment, not hypercritical mob scene, is assisted by this

pbwiki, which minutes have not been put up and wikified, much less

off large & small group time editing...

Maybe 5 years ago NOW, I worked in a small hypothermia shelter,

when I had a car, did the Point In Time Survey which only counted the

sheltered homeless and not the many who call in {leave a message) and

I had to turn away as Intake Manager, IRONICALLY and PAINFULLY as

someone who got in and lived to tell about it, but hopes to make a

difference from the experiences...

 

I remember thinking maybe designing an online reservation system and

800 type number would help that?  Kind of like a commercial hotel

does... I remember not being able to get online while working,

possibly because of one metered business phone line (I bought a new

Palm and Used Palm V to get though those tech 'secluded & restrainted'

times) sitting and being bombarded with Wrestling, Awards shows,

cramped in with food storage, microwave & fridge in the partial room

called an office, upstairs, but IT wouldn't be accessible to me NOW,

and other such  tasteless boob tube things when I spend my morning off

time in search of sleep, quiet and writing/ journalling (or should

that NOW be WeBeLogging?) 

 

And evenings away from old friends out of phase with late shift

work...

 

So repeated isolation, seclusion and restraint, a black eye and not

getting a bed, might cause someone to end up in an ER?  Or State

Institute?

 

Most of what I want to hear from hospitals about recovery is how to

stay out of the hospital, not monthly, weekly, daily or hourly safety

checks of guarding the inmates and forced outpatient commitments like

the last year of RRWG meetings...

 

Maybe meeting on common ground, insecure, neutral & off hours like the

RRWG & other patients who haven't been paid for the last year's work?

 

But with shift work you're almost always on schedule, with 24x7

facilities...

 

Maybe training others, so you can go home sometimes?

 

 

5.

Footie, the main character in a PBS NOW documentary on Housing

First in New York City, which aired recently on Feb 2, 2007 or so,

myself getting a repeating call that woke me (having retired early) up

to watch it, snapping at people while I'm demoralized by what

has been happening TO me, WITHOUT me, instead of WITH me...

 

Not wanting to get up, like the old Rocky Balboa character, down on

the mat, fearing breaking another and/or rebreaking the same toe, as I

stumble around clinically way too tired, in a place where I frequently

can't sleep because of bad design echoing just walking around upstairs

and taking a shower creates more noise than a basement, except in the

middle of the day, interrupted by telemarketers, odd calls, and other

such harassments...  A recluse, to be sure, back in his lonely

writer's area, like Harry Chapin's singing, but not as good...

 

Writing as education and/or therapy, who would have thought?

 

Irreverent?  Does it provoke interaction?  Say like Dr. Klein, or

Whittaker? Both Negative and Positive? Or is it fun?  Maybe in the

end, but it's way past due...  And it's work, still yet to be paid...

 

How about Recovery.edu as a name?

I was watching House, MD on TV last night, playing the curmugion

pain killer addicted doctor, who solves the difficult cases, flogs

interns, residents, administrators, patients and the world alike, and

for some reason is kept around, for the alternating dismay, supervision,

education and enjoyment of others, in an episode where he tried a

wheelchair on a bet for a good parking space so he wouldn't have to

limp/gimp as far, looking similar to mine, in fact, missing a meeting

or two which could have helped what I'm trying to do, but couldn't get

there safely, after developing sore arms manually deleting thousands

of emails from a server, as the second worst horder of emails, up to

100 MB of emails keeping all list mail, meeting announcements,

resources I might need to figure some other things I'm forgetting

doing NOW, etc...  

 

So what is Assistive Technology?  Is it four wheels on a wheelchair?

Or Palm Pilot?  Or bike GPS while lost?  Or cell phone / web browser

to lookup forgotten details available online, like at home or in

libraries?  Or multimedia of the mentioned shows like House, MD coming

down a staircase in a chair,  Rocky Balboa movie to reference above,

speakers from previous conferences, or video clips of Footie and

friends like PictureTheHomeless.org video gallery?  Or learning to

video process Empowered for {Spare} Change?

And then there is this Interactive Website, called NoVAPeers,

describing there are No VA Peers, nor other places doing wiki,

afaict, except Katrina, aka my blog as the county funder (like others)

who came back from a paid vacation, didn't credit me at all publically

after two years on Drop In Center development during the Opening/

Parents' Day of OPFC/CWC, drove and with a Blackberry, laser printed

and likely photocopied a partial page of some unsubstantiated reasons

why not paying, within days of ThanksGiving and couldn't seem to be

able to pay me the agreed to amount after receiving deliverables and

not approving money to make changes only on her abusive terms.  A

contract is an agreement between two parties, not just one, forcing

changing, previously unspecified, requirements and commitments on

another disadvantaged party...

 

That $2k would have helped pay for the folding bike instead of folding

wheelchair, dental bills, car rentals for organizing work, etc, but

instead was used to demoralize just yet another consumer...

 

So, in conclusion, in my Contract with America, You've defaulted, your

pretty bad budget to pay for a War On Oil that a foreign policy gets

My NOVA neighbors (young, old & in between) military and otherwise

civilian killed, both internally and externally, and this Drudge

Report runs out of time, as Seinfield, a very popular tv show touts,

it's about nothing.
