Large group monthly meeting at the hospital / institute.
Attendence was high but last month, the meeting inexplicably did not occur, possibly based on the host's schedule, without notice... I had emailed out last month, in heavy rain, to confirm the meeting, Bill called the Institute and found that it was not on the board. Reports of at least two people showing up at the Institute, not getting the am emails to not find a meeting.
PRS working on BARF / CARF :-)
Pathways absent, surmised that it was also a CARF issue.
Considering creating a chart of jurisdiction, provider, consumer, family and non profit representation.
Membership (need Glossary) used as a euphemism for recruiting.
No publicity yet of receiving the state money to the community...
Meeting had an agenda, mostly blank, but not circulated ahead of time.
We were short at least 1 copy for a member who arrived late. Members shared.
Process issues were brought up by providers (KD and Wendy?). It can seem like control when process is noted, but not brought back to the large group to decide based on the observation.
I commented on "be careful of what you ask for, you might get it", referring to getting the funding, but being overwhelmed by the responsibility in the chaos of "storming, norming and forming" groups...
In the structure discussion, I mentioned it would depend on what the group wants to be after the two years might determine the desired structure.
Isn't one of the goals of recovery independence?
Possibly get other sources of funding?
Possible structures like a consortium for a metropolitan area's academia (like in research and libraries), Metro Washington Council of Governments which is two states and the district. Bill mentioned South West Virginia's regional organization findlink.
Mentioned that what we are creating an Intergroup (i.e. a group of groups), but individuals would need to be included as well.
Previously mentioned on the email response to the meeting announcement by S.
I offered that I would ask about meeting at CWC in Seven Corners, but got no response. Also noted this pbwiki, but no response. Disappointing after at least two days looking into wiki for this project and creating this...
Suggested moving the meeting around the region. VOCAL does it. Bill responded that we lose people when that is done.
For some reason the discussion stopped at that point, and my comments disregarded.
Seemed to be assuming a medical model. KB commented the opposite, perhaps I didn't hear it as we were probably over an hour into the meeting at that point.
At the institute, besides the 2+ hour commute EACH WAY I don't like having to sign in and be escorted. I find it traumatizing.
Facility Needs:
easy access
flexibility of arrival time and departure time (setup, speaking with others after, cleanup)
Internet connection to look up information, show people accounts, training website, etc.
Video Projector for displaying a computer output to the large group for website.
possible printer/ copier / fax access
People speaking over each other.
'Collision detection' (in computer networking, when two nodes speak at the same time, as in Ethernet, a collision is detected and since only one can speak at a time, one becomes silent...)
Felt unheard and starting to get angry in the the large group again.
My comments and suggestions were not being heard AGAIN.
It seems to happen over and over again, that Providers ask for consumer feedback to get funding, but then dismissed after funding is received. This group should be different. See number one ConsumerDriven...
No one else volunteering to work on the website team.
Jokingly added, "I don't bite". But I will bark and growl ;-)
Non technical member offered, I mentioned that we'll train...
Subgroups meeting at the same time, so can not be done in parallel.
I was also prompted by MA for which ones I'd be interested in, and replied to the effect that "I plan to play in many sandboxes".
Later emails disturbing in that they sent out membership lists, which I don't recall volunteering, but luckily nothing I hadn't been public about. Need to correct the email of passwords as a policy and security issue.
