Forum
Forum is a general computer term for a discussion board like YahooGroups.com, phpBB.com (see also WikiPedia PhpBB), and many other software solutions generally called Fora. A wiki could do some of those functions, and generally has been forced to do some of that here lacking a paid hosting service, but the email interface is generally lacking, at least here on [PBWiki.com].
Instead of sending email to the group to post on the wiki in the feedback areas, or to individual's pages,
There is a paradigm shift where traditionally someone would send email to a bunch of email addresses that someone has to keep track of (currently each person sending the email) to the group, but with many new members arriving and many more planned, this eliminates new people from the process by keeping organizational history in some people's email boxes, instead of shared community, whereas a wiki posts it for all to share, question, improve (by commenting and editing) as learning, and distribute to others...
This page started as a definition of forum, but quickly changed to reference material on examples of fora, and procedures on how to change the group process to a collaborative web based wiki approach.
